The Nurse Supervisor performs professional supervisory nursing practice and bed control coordination for the David Grant Medical Center (DGMC) as part of joint program between the VANCHCS and DGMC. Responsible for recognizing and assisting in solving professional, administrative and supervisory problems in throughout the medical center. Position requires considerable judgment in applying professional knowledge in solving nursing problems within established policies and practices and is reviewed by the supervisor through conferences, reports and observation of results obtained. The Nurse Supervisor position reports administratively to the Clinical Coordinator for VA/DoD Joint Programs. Nursing supervisors and bed management fall all under the supervision of the Inpatient Squadron.

1. Serves as administrative authority for the smooth function of all units on assigned shift. 2. Receives report from off-going supervisor and gives report to on-coming supervisor. 3. Performs rounds to monitor the conditions and care of acutely ill patients. 4. Assures that staffing is in place; assigns and directs staffing as needed. 5. Assists RNs in assessing patients who are experiencing acute changes. 6. Provides clinical expertise in medical management, crisis and behavior management techniques. 7. Facilitates the admission of patients from other facilities. 8. Responds with rapid response team and with Code Blue team. 9. Responsible for gathering reporting data related to bed control/management. 10. Actively develops and manages collaborative partnerships with physicians and other clinicians. 11. Provides oversight of capabilities available and capacity of bed status at DGMC. 12. Utilizes chain of command to keep leadership informed and up to date on capabilities, capacity, and other concerns in the medical center. 13. Coordinates with physicians and arranges care based on urgency, medical capability, and geographic location
1. BSN and/or Master's degree from an accredited school of nursing recognized by the VA (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). 2. Current proficiency in Basic Life Support (BLS)/ACLS through the American Heart Association (Required prior to assuming clinical duties and must remain current ?VHA Directive 11-77) 3. Experience in VA and/or DoD healthcare, VA electronic medical record 4. Member of an appropriate professional nursing organization and seeks continuing education and professional development opportunities consistent with the annual learning plan. 5. 3 years of supervisory experience within the last 5 years 6. Minimum of five (5) years of professional nursing experience with progressive leadership and administrative responsibilities in complex settings in the last ten (10) years 7. National certification in a nursing specialty
