San Mateo Medical Center is seeking a well-qualified and experienced Materials Management professional with a strong understanding of supply chain operations, specifically in a hospital and clinic setting. Under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Materials Management will plan, organize, direct and supervise the operations of the Material Management division for the San Mateo Medical Center, including central supply, purchasing and receiving, inventory control, contract coordination, sterile processing, laundry, mailroom and transportation.
The Director provides leadership to permanent and temporary employees, as well as contractors who provide specific services. Additionally, the successful candidate will assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of goals, objectives, policies and procedures; provide staff support to higher level management; and select, train and supervise subordinate professional, technical and clerical staff.
The successful candidate for this position will have at least five years of experience in hospital or medical clinic management involving materials purchasing, receiving, distribution and inventory management, including at least 3 years of supervisory experience.
In addition, the successful candidate will possess:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in health, public or business administration or a closely related field
Knowledge of the principles and practices of materials management and purchasing
Knowledge of medical products and equipment, surgical supplies, as well as laboratory and other related products
A firm understanding of primary contracting concepts and experience with contract negotiations
Demonstrated success in driving value through rebates and tier level contract negotiation
Knowledge and experience with automated systems for purchasing, distribution, contract management, instrument tracking and sterilization monitoring
Comprehensive knowledge of GPO contracting and contract management
Experience with maintaining prime distributor relationships
An understanding and experience with the management of personnel and budgeting
Knowledge of current trends in healthcare policy
Extensive knowledge of laws, codes and regulations governing community health care facilities, including hospital accreditation, and quality management and regulatory compliance principles with respect to supply chain and sterile processing functions
