Carolinas HealthCare System, the largest not-for-profit integrated healthcare system in North and South Carolina with 39 hospitals (owned and managed), almost 12 million patient interactions annually, and nationally ranked as a Top 50 hospital by US News & World Report in multiple adult and pediatric specialties, has engaged Wheless Partners to lead a national search for a Vice President of Patient Experience/Care Experience Improvement. With particular focus on patient-facing clinical areas, the Vice President will assist in leading the ongoing development of the system’s patient experience strategy, drive the execution and operations of the plans into the daily work flows, and build a culture of continual improvement in the care experience for patients and their families across the enterprise that ensures successful achievement of that strategy.
The Vice President will closely collaborate with colleagues across all levels of the organization, most notably clinical and operations leaders, as well as corporate peers, physicians, and front-line caregivers, to assess and communicate performance expectations to continually improve the care experience and assist in the development and implementation of initiatives, programs, and performance improvement plans that are aligned with the overall organizational strategy and operational excellence priorities. As a subject matter expert in care experience improvement, the Vice President will facilitate continuous learning of best practices that teaches colleagues how to effectively translate the concepts of service excellence, patient experience and patient relations into actionable behaviors that bring value, reduce avoidable patient suffering, and promote the health of those they serve.
The Vice President will report to the SVP/Chief Patient Experience Officer, and through facilitation and collaboration with regional patient experience consultants and coordinators and numerous system-wide clinical and operations leaders, operationalize the patient care experience goals and drive the achievement of agreed-upon metrics, including top-decile performance in Press Ganey. Additionally, he/she will administer the system’s Health Literacy Program that provides patients and families with health literate information so that they can be involved and engaged in their care.
