POSITION SUMMARY: The Vascular Access Service RN (VAS RN)
Provides safe, competent nursing care for patients in accordance with facility policies, standards, and philosophy. Provides professional leadership and support to the healthcare team. The concepts of Patient Centered Care will provide the foundation for all nursing care. Demonstrates Service Excellence standards at all times.Â The purpose of the Vascular Access Service is to both insert and maintain advanced vascular access. Advanced vascular access is defined as vascular access which is not normally associated with regular duties of an RN. Such access includes, but is not limited to: difficult peripheral IV access, midline access and/or other ultrasound guided peripheral vascular access, and PICC insertion.Â
The VAS RN serves as the primary educator of and advocate for proper insertion, maintenance, use, and selection of any central venous access. To this end, they will collaborate with both nurses and providers (physicians, surgeons, nurse practitioners, physicianâ€™s assistants, etc.) to ensure appropriate vascular access is selected for their patients. Â Also, the VAS RN will provide regular dressing changes on any and all advanced vascular access lines.Â All of the above duties will be provided in accordance with all state and federal regulations as well as all accepted standards as provided by any expert organization in this field.Â In addition to the above requirements, the VAS RN will provide their services in accordance with those outlined in the job description for an RN within this organization.
