Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. The RN Coding Liaison reports to the Executive Director of Middle Revenue Cycle to assist in keeping the multifunctional day to day coding and CDI processes consistent and within coding guidelines. The purpose of this position is to ensure the integrity and quality of the data reported is supported by provider clinical documentation to accurately reflect reimbursement and quality reporting. Maintains knowledge of and keeps up with regulatory and healthcare changes pertaining to Medicare/Medicaid, payer guidelines, ICD-10, CPT coding and documentation guidelines. Works closely with CDI specialists and coding, providing coding conventions and guidelines when clinical and coding determinations are in conflict. Works directly with the physician advisor to discuss cases that require additional evaluation and finalization.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Â·Participates in both formal and informal education sessions with CDI, HIM and other clinical staff as needed. Educates on the importance of documentation, necessary verbiage and to provide a better understanding of coding, ensuring optimal reimbursement, adherence to coding guidelines and complete documentation.
Â·Serves as training liaison and educational resource for Coding and CDI. Assists in interviews and recommends new hires, trains new and/or established Coding and CDI team members as necessary and evaluates performance for potential coaching and learning opportunities.
Â·Concurrent and retrospective evaluation of Coding/CDI discrepancies and communicates to the coding/CDI staff in a collaborative manner for resolution, ensuring compliant, accurate and optimal reimbursement.
Â·Assists in the identification of indicators for performance and development of monitoring strategies, data collection and reporting methodologies. Utilizes process improvement skills.
Â·Consults with Coding and CDI Directors and department quality staff as needed to optimize the processes as a continuous improvement cycle.
Â·Follows industry coding and documentation guidelines to maintain system-wide coding consistency and to remain in compliance with all government and regulatory agencies.
Â·Works with other departments as requested to address coding needs, claim issues, coding errors and/or questions.
Â·Performs special projects and/or other duties as assigned; with ability to give oral and/or written presentations
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Â·Mastery of EMR data extrapolation.
Â·Articulate in both written and verbal communication to formulate clear and concise coding assessments
Â·Critical thinking and problem-solving skills with strong organizational and analytical skills
Â·Ability to multi-task and work in a stressful and fast paced environment that has very tight timelines for work completion.
Â·Knowledge of federal regulatory rules and regulations regarding documentation and coding
Â·Dependable with a demonstrated ability to efficiently and independently manage own time and tasks with minimal supervision
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:
Â·Working knowledge of Microsoft office products
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Â·Graduate of school of Nursing
Â·Bachelorâ™s degree in a field such as nursing, management, business
Â·Minimum of three (3) yearsâ™ experience as an RN in an acute clinical setting
Â·Minimum 5 years of inpatient coding experience in an acute care hospital
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
Â·Previous CDI experience
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:
Â·State of Florida current valid RN nursing license.
Â·Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:
Â·Registration with AHIMA as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
