The Orlando VA Healthcare System is currently seeking a dynamic, experienced senior nurse leader for the Associate Director, Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive (ADPCS/NE) position. The Associate Director for Patient Care Services is the top executive within nursing and is a key member of the senior executive leadership team of the organization, involved in strategic planning, organizational assessment, and program development. The Associate Director, Patient Care Services/Nurse Executive (ADPCS/NE) shares the responsibility for developing and supporting the strategic directions of the Medical Center and the operational plan by promoting and monitoring quality patient care, critical operational and fiscal indicators. He/she is the chief spokesperson for organized nursing services and is the catalyst for the integration and collaboration of Nursing and Social Work with other professional disciplines and functional areas in the mutual achievement of patient-centered and organizational goals. Duties would typically include, but not be limited to: Participates fully in upper-level management decisions to speak on behalf of nursing and other hospital administration issues and is a member of all medical center-level Councils/Committees that govern and influence the operations of the medical center and other satellite sites for patient care delivery. Actively involved in strategic planning with the VISN 8 Network Director and nationally. Responsible for the practice of nursing 24/7 by all registered nurses, advanced practice nurses, and allied health staff (LPNs, NAs, etc.) regardless of service line /or supervisory authority. The Orlando VA Healthcare System has more than 1,800 nursing staff. The Associate Director for Patient Care Services will exercise final authority and approval over nursing functional statements/position descriptions, nursing care policies and procedures; nursing standards of patient care, treatment, and services; standards of nursing practice; nurse staffing plans; and standards to measure, assess, and improve patient outcomes. Ensures that all registered nurses, advance practice nurses, and licensed practical nurses are licensed, certified, and/or registered upon employment, and thereafter. Ensures a competency process is in place to evaluate individual practice, as well as a review process for annual performance ratings. The Associate Director for Patient Care Services has the authority and responsibility for establishing standards of nursing practice and ensuring the continuous and timely availability of quality nursing services. The Orlando VA Healthcare System is pursuing a Pathway to Excellence designation and the incumbent is a leader on this journey. Some travel will be required to visit Outpatient Clinics and for VISN/Headquarters requirements. Work Schedule: Core hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm; Additional hours may be required based on demands.
