This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Learn more Huntington VAMC is a 1c interdisciplinary teaching facility with service-lines serving medical, surgical, inpatients and outpatients, with an Emergency Department, and multiple community-based outpatient clinics (CBOC). This position is administratively responsible to the Nurse Manager and is responsible and accountable for the coordination of care for a culturally diverse veteran population. The Registered Nurse (RN) provides care and counseling of persons or in the promotion and maintenance of health and prevention of illness and injury based upon the nursing process which includes: systematic data gathering, assessment, appropriate nursing judgment, and evaluation of human responses to actual or potential health problems through such services as case finding, health teaching, health counseling; provision of care supportive to or restorative of life and well-being; and executing medical regimens including administering medications and treatments prescribed by a licensed or otherwise legally authorized provider. The RN's primary commitment is to the patient, whether an individual, family, group, or community. Duties of the position include, but are not limited to: Responsible and accountable for the coordination of care for a culturally diverse veteran population. Effectively apply all aspects of the nursing process and care management principles within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting. Working closely with the Nurse Manager to ensure weekly/monthly staffing is appropriate. Provide formal and informal staff education when needed. Assume full responsibility for the competency assessment checklists and competency folders as well as assuring their timely completion. Responsible for all PI data assigned to the position for collection, analysis, and/or staff follow-up. Create and implement a structured orientation plan for new staff and onboarding in the ICU. Perform, teach, delegate, and supervise nursing procedures with safety and competence. Ensures staff comply with infection control practices, such as handwashing and wearing of appropriate personal protective equipment. Ensures staff comply with safe work practices. Demonstrates leadership in patient advocacy, in protecting the health, safety, and rights of patients. Initiates/participates in consultations to health care teams regarding ethical issues. Functions as a leader and partner in the interdisciplinary team. Other duties as assigned.
