The Nurse Coordinator is a registered professional nurse who assists in carrying out the Risk Management Program for all VHA facilities and evaluation of data in the contract Peer Review Program. The Nurse Coordinator assists as a liaison for the Just Culture/ Just Accountability program for administrative paid tort claim processing. The Nurse Coordinator collaborates with multiple disciplines in the assessment, planning, organization, implementation and evaluation of both of these programs. The Nurse Coordinator executes the position responsibilities that demonstrate effective leadership; detailed planning; professional communication; creative and innovative approaches to the improvement of risk management program development; possess an ability to organize priorities; meet deadlines; provide in-person, telephonic and electronic professional presentations; demonstrate the ability to work independently and in teams. The majority of the focus of this role within VHA is provided via conference calls and/or live meetings. However, the Risk Management Program also sponsors "Boot Camp" training consisting of on-site meetings where presentations are needed and therefore the position may require travel on an occasional basis. The Nurse Coordinator will assist in completing tort claim case reviews as part of the Medical Advisory Opinion program. The Nurse Coordinator works collaboratively with others to: Develop and nurture a culture of safety within the VHA. Support the quality framework for excellence Provide clinical risk management and patient safety systems approaches/tools and consultation to VACO program office leaders and staff Participate in measuring program effectiveness. Communicate effectively in person and via all types of teleconferencing media. Demonstrate highly effective written communication skills. Evaluate documents which support programs and participate in improvements. Provide recommendations to programs, committees and/or services that relate to assigned functions on behalf of the Program Director Manage audiences with skill and poise. Be perceptive of challenges and help resolve barriers individuals may be experiencing at the facility or VISN level.
