This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. Learn more The Surgical Operating Room Nurse in the Podiatry Clinic will be responsible for the following duties, but not limited to: *Serves as a Podiatry Clinic RN to assess urgent patients by stabilizing the patient and referring them to an advanced level of patient care, if needed. *This nurse will help the Podiatry Clinic Team with the Department of Veterans Affairs' Prevention of Amputation in Veterans Everywhere (PAVE) initiative. This initiative, which helps providers identify and assist veterans who are high risk for amputation, by helping them to prevent possible amputation by providing diabetic education and follow-up care to ensure the veteran understands what they must do and follows up with their specific care. *Assists providers with the annual diabetic PAVE reporting, and follows up with veterans. *Assists with, or directly provides patient wound care. *Assisting the Podiatry Clinic Team. *Helps with minor procedure set-up in the office setting, including accessing appropriate medications through the automated medication storage/dispensing machine (Omnicell) as well as preparing injectables. *Assists with scheduling or coordinating surgical procedures as needed. *Keeps up to date with advanced wound care products, as well as identifying more efficient processes as needed. *Triaging phone calls that may need an advanced level of care to determine if an appointment is needed and with which specific provider. *Procures patient medical records from the providers outside the VA when not available in the Department of Veterans Affairs' Joint Legacy Viewer (JLV) database. *If currently certified as a wound care nurse you may be asked to provide "high risk" patient wound care procedures and foot care including nail debridement and callus and corn care and/or reduction with scalpel or tissue nippers. **Note: If you are currently certified as a wound care nurse, you must provide current certification with your application packet.
