The Central Texas Veterans Health Care System is recruiting for an experienced OR Registered Nurse to join the team in Temple, Texas. As a Registered Nurse, you will demonstrate competency to circulate from simple to complex surgical procedures. Participation in department quality assessments and improvement activities will be needed. You will also participate in student and new employee orientations as well as teaching activities when opportunities present themselves. As the Operating Room Registered Nurse, you will use professional standards of care and practice to evaluate self, programs, and service activities. You will maintain knowledge of current techniques, trends, and professional issues. You will use group process to identify, analyze, and resolve care problems. Duties of the position include but are limited to; Performing assessments, planning, and implementation of nursing interventions and evaluation. Overseeing instrument and equipment set-up for the case and anticipate the needs of the surgeon. Communicating and collaborating with patients, visitors, and families. Administers medications and performs procedures per established policies and guidelines. Initiate/participate in Patient Safety activities that result in improved outcomes. Implement an educational plan to meet changing program or service needs. Educate colleagues and serve as a preceptor and/or mentor on patient safety initiatives and standards. Support and enhance client self-determination. Serve as a resource for clients and staff in addressing ethical issues. Participate in ethics consultations. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team in research activities to improve care. Identify and assess resource utilization and safety issues, taking appropriate action. Preferred Experience: While not a requirement for consideration or selection, applicants with the following preferred education/experience will be considered highly qualified, BSN or higher 2 years of Operating Room (OR) experience Current Certified Perioperative Nurse (CNOR) Current BLS/ACLS Certification Such experience must be clearly documented in the application documents. Work Schedule: Full time shifts between the core hours of 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Schedules may vary based on patient care needs. Tour hours: 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. On Call Schedule: Weekday and weekend on-call required for position. On-call tours: 9:30 a.m.- 6 p.m. and 7:30 a.m.- 6:00 p.m. Bargaining Unit Status: This position is part of the bargaining unit. Financial Disclosure Report: Not required
