The Assistant Nurse Manager will be a clinician as well as a first level supervisor (non-bargaining employee) who functions under the guidance and leadership of the Nurse Manager in providing administrative and clinical leadership within the CCL/IR. He/she uses the nursing process to achieve identified goals for CCL/IR and JAHVA. As a nursing leader, the Assistant Nurse Manager, with direction from the Nurse Manager, is responsible for the management of nursing practice, adherence to Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) standards and nursing operations within his/her defined areas of responsibility. He/she is accountable for writing policies, standard operating procedures; adhering to established policies, standards of care, and standards of practice. The ANM will oversee administrative services and staffing provided in the unit to ensure optimal customer service is provided. He/she facilitates an interdisciplinary approach to high quality, cost effective and customer focused health care. The ANM directly supervises nursing personnel in the CCL/IR, provides coverage for Nurse Manager in his/her absence, and functions under the supervision of the covering Nurse Manager. The selectee is knowledgeable concerning the disciplinary process. The ANM in collaboration with the Nurse Manager is responsible for all issues that affect staffing including standards of practice, credentialing, training, functional statement, position descriptions, proficiency reports, performance appraisals, policies, procedures, protocols and competencies. Further, the Assistant Nurse Manager is responsible for promoting and supporting evidenced-based practice of staff members to enhance nursing skills, quality patient care delivery and fosters the VHA Core Values: Integrity, Commitment, Advocacy, Respect and Excellence ("I CARE"). Responsibilities includes but not limited to: Assists the Nurse Manager in overall management and operations of Perioperative Service Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory (CCL/Cath Lab) and Interventional Radiology (IR). Leads and guides staff in the delivery of high-quality patient care. Collaborates with the Nurse Manager to identify unit issues, takes action towards their resolution, and evaluates the outcomes of changes. Participates in interdisciplinary team rounds and discharge planning meetings to facilitate timely patient care services. Participates in the evaluation of staff performance. Coaches and counsels staff as directed by the Nurse Manager. Participates in employee scheduling, time and attendance reviews. Initiates quality improvement activities to improve patient outcomes, and applies evidence-based practice to improve nursing practice and patient care.
