This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application. The Inpatient Mental Health Unit is looking for an enthusiastic Registered Nurse (RN) to join their team! In this position you will be accountable for the provision of direct patient care and for delivering quality nursing care by applying all aspects of the nursing process in the management of acute and chronic mental health illnesses to a culturally diverse Veteran population with complex needs. Duties include but are not limited to: Responsible for evaluating care provided to the Veterans, maintaining medication schedules, doing health assessments, providing intramuscular (IM) medication, providing support, and providing education on daily living functions through frequent direct contacts with Veterans. Responsible for linking Veterans to other VA programs and community resources to promote independence and recovery while living in the community. Completes all required program documentation and develops comprehensive treatment plans following a recovery model of care. Maintaining a current BLS certification is required as is the ability and licensure to drive an automobile. Assess plans, implements and evaluates care based on age-specific components. Assume responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient transition through the continuum of care, patient and family education, patient self-management after discharge, and supporting factors that impact customer satisfaction. Demonstrates proficiency in decision-making and using the nursing process for complex situations that effect performance outcomes at the point of care. Influences care outcomes by collaborating with member of the interdisciplinary team. Core elements of performance include knowledge and active participation in unit/program level quality improvement processes and initiatives as well as customer service programs. Demonstrates collaboration by using the group process to solve problems. Demonstrates critical thinking with efficiency and accuracy in assessing and managing situations. Work Schedule: Compressed tour consisting of: 6 12-hour shifts and 1 8-hour shift in a two week pay cycle. Hours usually include holidays and weekends. Floating may be required to support other areas. Monday - Friday, 12 hour shifts: 7:30am - 8:00pm, 7:30pm - 8:00am to include weekends(Sunday & Saturday) and holidays.
