The Podiatry Care Manager is accountable directly to the Surgery Services Clinic Nurse Manager, Surgery Services Nurse Administrator, and ultimately to the Chief of Surgery, functions in the Podiatry clinic and works to coordinate pre and post-operative care for Podiatry patients. This position requires a working knowledge of the organization, the surgical process, and an in depth knowledge of Podiatry surgical procedure requirements. The Podiatry Care Manger works in the Podiatry or other Surgery Services Clinic. Responsibilities include assuring that appropriate documentation reflects patient assessments and interdisciplinary treatment plans in preparation for surgery. In addition, the nurse demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving holistic care to adult and geriatric patients, through collaborative strategies, in compliance with the Michigan Nurse Practice Act, Medical Center, and VAHQ standards of practice. The candidate provides consult management and direct nursing care to individual and groups of patients under the immediate guidance and direction of the Podiatry health care providers and ultimately the Chief, Surgery Service. The candidate will also take direction, as applicable to the functioning of the Section, from Podiatry resident and attending physician staff. The candidate will coordinate changes in the surgery schedule with the patient and OR staff; ensure timely History and Physicals; organize lodging/admission consults, coordinate surgical equipment/prosthetics/representatives for cases to reduce cancellations and increase OR utilization. In addition, the candidate will provide clinic management and pre-operative education to Podiatry surgical patients as directed by the Podiatry health care providers and Chief of Podiatry; coordinate multiple consult/appointment follow ups as needed and any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
