This Vascular Interventional Radiology RN position will be located at the DCVAMC. The primary purpose of the Vascular Interventional Radiology Nurse is to demonstrate leadership in delivering and improving holistic care through collaborative strategies with others in the assigned area. The Vascular Interventional Radiology Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care for the Veteran in the Vascular Interventional Radiology Suite. He/she serves patients requiring inpatient and outpatient procedures for diagnosis and treatment of vascular problems or diseases. He/she communicated with the physician on an ongoing basis concerning the patient's condition and administration of conscious sedation medication for the procedure. He/she consistently assists with the maintenance and inventory of equipment. He/she assures that all equipment and supplies are in a complete state of readiness for the desired procedure. The Vascular Interventional Radiology Nurse ensures that hospital policies and protocols are complied with for all procedures. He/she hemodynamically monitors, positions, and assists patients during procedures. The Vascular Interventional Radiology Nurse is responsible for assuring that the patient is correctly identified using the organizations two patient identifiers, completion of the time-out prior in accordance with hospital policy. The Vascular Interventional Radiology Nurse is proficient in hemodynamic monitoring of a patient undergoing procedures and sedation along with cardiac rhythm monitoring and interpretation. He/she provides care in a non-judgmental, non-discriminatory manner that is sensitive to the adult or elderly patient and family's diversity , preserving their autonomy, dignity, and rights. The Vascular Interventional Radiology Nurse administers prescribed therapies using appropriate judgement; evaluation of therapies is persistent and timely. He/she initiates referrals to other disciplines and/or services appropriately. He/she accurately documents in the medical record findings, assessments, and care provided. He/she effectively functions independently as the Charge Nurse in an assignment managing the care of a group of patients and caregivers. The Vascular Interventional Radiology RN assigns staff to provide care based off competencies and identified priorities to ensure safe and effective patient care. He/she demonstrates and/or verbalizes correct responses to emergencies, manages complex patient situations and initiates effective action in emergencies. He/she demonstrates understanding of infection control precautions appropriate for the Vascular Interventional Radiology RN. He/she participates/ leads unit-based shared governance, performance improvement and safety initiatives, as well as serves as a resource nurse for the Nurse l Level 1 and Nurse l Level 2 nurses.
