The Richmond VA Medical Center is looking for an Spinal Cord Injury Registered Nurse (RN) for the Spinal Cord Injury & Disorders (SCID) Unit. The registered nurse is directly responsible to the designated manager in the assigned area; the registered nurse is responsible and accountable for providing direct patient care and for the delivery of quality nursing care to a culturally diverse veteran patient population. The registered nurse possesses the knowledge and skills to effectively apply all aspects of the nursing process. They practice within a collaborative and interdisciplinary practice setting which will then enable effective implementation of health promotion and prevention practices, management of acute and chronic illnesses, and attainment of optimal levels of functioning and/or support of the dying patient, and significant others. Duties include but not limited too: Functions as an integral member of the spinal cord injury interdisciplinary team and responsible for accurate clinical assessments, interventions, evaluations and documentation of care for SCID patients. Demonstrate an organized and systematic process for problem solving and prioritizing the needed delivery of care. Perform nursing physical and psychosocial assessments, utilizes nursing process to achieve individualized patient outcomes. Direct the care provided by Licensed Practical Nurse, Nursing Assistants, and Health Technician. Have knowledge and ability to provide safe holistic patient centered care to veterans and active duty service members with the Spinal Cord Injury & Disorders. Assists with Activities of Daily Living(ADL) , patient, family and caregiver training. Provide direct care services to a culturally diverse group of patients with medical/surgical and rehabilitation needs through coordination of services within the Medical Center.
