You Will Be Responsible For:

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY: â¢ Lead the Teaching/Learning Innovation Steering Committee â¢ Organize programming for Faculty Professional Development meetings â¢ Regularly attend assigned committee meetings â¢ Lead educational innovation efforts that directly impact faculty teaching practice by researching, partnering with faculty and other stakeholders, identifying teaching innovation projects to recommend for funding, and designing training for new educational technologies and approaches that have been adopted â¢ Create and sustain strategic planning for instructional design, innovative teaching/learning and rank and promotion aspects â¢ Supervise employees related to educational technology and curricular design, as needed â¢ Develop and deliver new faculty orientation and scaffold year-long development sequence for all core faculty and select contributing faculty, in collaboration with the Faculty Rank and Promotion Committee â¢ Collaborate with Institutional Effectiveness and Research Committees for effective assessment and research processes â¢ Develop, implement and advance an institute of innovative teaching/learning and educational technology, in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders â¢ Collaborate with AdventHealth for faculty development programming â¢ Enhance instructional and curriculum design through education and consultation â¢ Assist with accredication aspects related to teaching/learning â¢ Develop and implement training for faculty related to rank and promotion areas â¢ Connect with external entities to maintain currency and understand best practices â¢ Promote and ensure evidence-based teaching/learning strategies among faculty â¢ Engage and direct faculty in career/teaching development â¢ Engage in and promote teaching/learning scholarship â¢ Support faculty development in the area of educational research â¢ Develop and implement programming for new faculty in basic educational technologies.Work with academic leadership to provide individualized faculty development plans for teaching effectiveness, based on newly hired, intermediate and more senior faculty â¢ Coordinate teaching and learning programming for university wide events â¢ Collaborate with leadership to provide a balance of development opportunities in teaching and learning, educational technology, integration of faith and learning, research and scholarship, and online education. â¢ Facilitates best practices within classroom settings in collaboration with instructors â¢ Facilitates and coordinates faculty training in educational technologies, including both online (e.g., Canvas) and campus-based technologies (e.g., simulation and other campus equipment), and provides guidance for faculty on appropriate adoption of these tools to teaching practice guided by the goal of optimizing student learning outcomes â¢ Develop and maintain a faculty development webpage. â¢ Encourage and support interprofessional activities. â¢ Support individual faculty professional development through consultation, course observation and feedback, and mentoring. â¢ Develop, coordinate, and/or maintain a variety of programs, as needed, including learning groups, mentoring programs, scholarship showcase, and seminars. â¢ Provide thought leadership and engages actively with faculty, academic leadership, and other stakeholders across the university to identify new and innovative opportunities for faculty support and development, as well as new technologies and tools to enhance the faculty teaching and student learning experience â¢ Partner with academic leaders to develop university-wide teaching and learning quality indicators and supports the achievement of quality through Institute educational programming and activities â¢ Participate in University governance, curriculum planning, and functions to support development and growth of the institution as appropriate
COMPLIANCE/REGULATORY RESPONSIBILITY: â¢ Maintain Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and HIPAA compliance.
OPERATING & CAPITAL BUDGET/FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: â¢ Establish operating budget for the Office of Faculty Development.
STRATEGIC PLANNING RESPONSIBILITY: â¢ Work in consultation with Academic Administration to develop, maintain, and implement a mission, vision, goals, and action steps for AHU faculty development and optimal education. â¢ Lead development of and management of the vision, mission, strategy, and activities of that support learning, innovation and faculty excellence, including expectations, processes, procedures, and evaluation of effectiveness. â¢ Develop ongoing programming specific to changing faculty development needs in collaboration with academic leadership. â¢ Seek opportunities to expand faculty development programming to include collaborating with nationally known experts in teaching and learning. â¢ Ensure support for faculty rank and promotion activities.
PERFORMANCE IMPROVEMENT RESPONSIBILITY: â¢ Seek continuing education in faculty development, curricular design, and instructional technology â¢ Actively engage with faculty to create improvement plans in teaching and learning, and educational technology.
COMMUNITY RELATIONS RESPONSIBILITY: â¢ Participate in professional associations in faculty development.
STAFFING/LABOR/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: â¢ Supervise faculty in development of evidence-based educational skills.
What You Will Need:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: â¢ Strong organizational skills â¢ Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills â¢ Effective oral and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex information in understandable terms to all levels of staff â¢ Effective computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel â¢ Ability to work in a matrix-management environment to achieve organizational goals â¢ Knowledge of educational methodologies â¢ In-depth knowledge of adult learning theory, instructional approaches, assessment techniques.Experience with delivering training/instruction in a variety of formats (face-to-face, online, synchronous-asynchronous) â¢ Ability to transfer theory into practice, to reach a broad audience â¢ Knowledge of educational practices within health sciences (clinical approaches, etc.) â¢ Knowledge of various accreditation requirements as it applies to faculty development expectations

â¢ Five (5) yearsâ™ experience in teaching educational methodologies or teaching techniques which may include: assessment, item writing, writing learning objectives, syllabus development, classroom management, science of learning, lesson planning, grading and rubrics, teaching effectiveness, student centered learning, inclusion, curriculum development, online education, course design, etc.
â¢ At least five (5) years of past faculty development experience (commiserate management and/or trainer experience would be considered).
â¢ At least three (3) years of higher education instructional experience, preferably at the graduate level (or closely related experience in training, mentoring or coaching may be considered).
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:
â¢ Doctoral degree in leadership, education, healthcare administration, curriculum design, management, or other related area of expertise
â¢ At least 5 years of higher education instructional experience, preferably at the graduate level (or closely related experience in training, mentoring or coaching may be considered).
The Executive Director for Learning Innovation and Faculty Excellence facilitates and supports the educational development of faculty at AHU in collaboration with leadership in scholarship/research, educational technology, integration of faith and learning, and online instruction. The Executive Director works in consultation with the Academic Administration, departmental leaders, and the Faculty Development Committee to set visionary goals and develop programming for individual faculty, academic departments, and implements institutional programs that meet institutional goals. The Executive Director will be responsible for the advancement of curricular instruction and development, as well as educational technology, in collaboration with related departments, in keeping with the AHU mission and vision. The Executive Director actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. The Executive Director for Learning Innovation and Faculty Excellence is the primary academic supervisor of professional development programs and reports directly to the Provost.
