The role you’ll contribute:
The Inpatient HIM Specialist III is responsible for coding and abstracting inpatient medical records using correct ICD10-CM and ICD10-PCS codes for Inpatient rules, and regulations. Performs quality checks of work completed by coders.
The value you’ll bring to the team:
Assigns and sequences ICD10-CM and ICD-PCS codes to diagnoses and procedures from documented information in the medical record.
Validates proper MS-DRG is assigned
Performs quality audits for accuracy and compliance.
Assures the final diagnoses and operative procedures as stated by the physician and other healthcare provider are valid and complete.
Reviews medical records to identify secondary complications and co-morbid conditions.
Codes and abstracts all necessary information with most accurately describes each documented diagnoses and procedures according to established HIM guidelines and AHIMA code of Ethics.
Able to communicate precisely with medical staff and other healthcare providers when querying information regarding diagnoses and procedures.
Meets coding productivity standards as outlined by department guidelines.
Abides by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association
Qualifications
The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:
Ability to work independently
Coding skills
Experience utilizing coding/grouping software with emphasis on inpatient principals is required
Experience in use of computer systems and office automation applications
Associate Degree or graduate of a technical school or technical certification required
Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) required
2-5 years of position related experience
