Collaborating with the multidisciplinary team and under the direction of the Nurse Manager and Senior Director, you will provide diagnostic/bio-psychosocial assessment, counseling, education, and support to addicts and their caregivers to aid their recovery. In this role, you will use your keen analytical and observational skills to assess/reassess patients admitted to the Detox unit for trauma/aggression/suicidal risk; identify issues and create goals and treatment plans; and follow up with patients utilizing outpatient, inpatient and community-based services to ensure continuity of care. In addition, you will provide backup coverage to the Nurse Manager, assist in staff evaluation/competencies, and ensure that counselors adhere to OASAS and other governing bodies' regulations.
To succeed in this vital position, you must possess:
High School Diploma or GED; Bachelor's Degree highly preferred
Minimum of 4 years’ experience as a CASAC effectively counseling individuals with alcohol/substance abuse disorders and their families
Certificate of completion of a Drug and Alcohol Counseling Program
Current NYS CASAC and BCLS certifications
An understanding of the variety of models and theories of addiction/problems related to substance abuse
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training and/or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire, and every two years after that
