Job Summary:
We are seeking a Clinical Nurse to be an integral member of the healthcare team and provide direct and indirect care to patients at the Duke Perinatal Clinic of Durham. Nurses in this role have the ability to float between different roles each week, which allows learning opportunities and variety. Professional development can be achieved through the clinical ladder program and participation in clinic committees and initiatives.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan, provide and document professional nursing care in ambulatory settings, utilizing the nursing process, in accordance with physician orders and established policies and procedures, under the supervision of the nurse manager and practice manager.
Perform assessments and practice orientation for initial newly pregnant patients
Perform telephone triage
Provide patient education on expectations after delivery using Baby Friendly Education Material
Act as the "charge" nurse or resource nurse as needed (responsible for patient education, walk-in assessments, blood pressure and wound checks, scheduling procedures, etc)
Collect and analyze patient data, make recommendations for nursing care plans, evaluate nursing care provided, document and communicate appropriately nursing actions taken and patient responses.
Delegate tasks and supervise the activities of other licensed and unlicensed care providers.
Participate in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate assistance or educational offerings.
Participate in the identification of clinical, operational and safety related performance improvement opportunities via clinic committees.
Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Job Eligibility Requirements:
Work requires graduation from an accredited BSN or Associate's Degree in Nursing or Nursing Diploma program. All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an appropriate BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within seven years of their start date.
Twelve months of appropriate clinical experience is required.
NC RN license is required. If candidate has another compact state RN license, NC state licensure must be obtained within 90 days of hire
Job Hours:
The schedule for this position is day shifts, Monday-Friday, with no weekends or holidays.
